Marcos vows commitment to combat terrorism, extremism

President Ferdinand Marcos reiterated its steadfast commitment to combating terrorism and preventing violent extremism on a global scale.

Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr. made this pledge during his address at the 33rd Session of the United Nations Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice.

“We recognize the urgent need for a robust international response to effectively address the challenge,” Abalos said.

“We believe that comprehensive and enhanced collaborative approaches and efforts are needed to disrupt terrorist financial networks, recruitment, and movement,” he added.

According to Abalos, the Marcos administration is advocating for strengthened information-sharing mechanisms between law enforcement agencies and increased regional and international cooperation in the fight against terrorism.

In a previous remark, President Marcos has been vocal in using the country’s “full force” against terrorism and extremist ideologies, citing the need to be vigilant against enemies of peace.

“As we defend the gains we have achieved, we will be vigilant against the enemies of peace,” President Marcos said.

“We will bear the full force of the state against terrorist elements, to those who preach the discarded and debunked ideology of dismemberment. The people will reject your selfish agenda,” he added.
