Clash of Kawali 2024 elevates budget meals inspired by Mother’s Day

Manila Standard’s highly anticipated cooking showdown, Clash of Kawali, has culminated in the second season of its Mother’s Day Special on May 11.

This year, three teams consisting of mother-child pairs competed to prepare healthy and filling dishes from ingredients they purchased using a P1,000-budget.

The output could be their specialty or something they love serving to their families.

WINNING PAIR. Mommy Diana and Kyle Dela Cruz emerge victorious with their fried rice and special eggplant omelette.

Participating teams included mommy Diane and Kyle Iñigo Dela Cruz, mommy Neri and Nash Valino, and mommy Grace and Chloe Villacarlos.

Ultimately, the Dela Cruz team won this year’s Clash of Kawali. Their winning dish was none other than fried rice and special eggplant omelette.

The Dela Cruz family took home a prize of P7,500, among other perks like free hotel accommodations, on top of the Golden Kawali trophy.

The dishes created by the three participating tandems in this year’s Clash of Kawali.

Meanwhile, the teams consisting of the Valino and Villacarlos families each received P3,500 along with gift certificates and loot bags from sponsors.

The Valino team prepared a dish of caldereta, while the Villacarlos team cooked meatballs and sizzling hotdog.

It all came down to the criteria of theme adherence (30 points), taste (30 points), teamwork (15 points), presentation (15 points), and sanitation and hygiene (10 points).

This year’s distinguished panel of judges include NutriAsia corporate communications manager Wally Panganiban, J&F Food Corporation marketing manager Tin Padilla, RAHC-Go Hotels director of sales and marketing Roselle Reyes, Hotel Lucky Chinatown PR & marketing officer Joshua Yasay, Fujidenzo ad agency creator Rhoda Luna, and Manila Standard deputy online editor Ratziel San Juan.

The Mother’s Day initiative is sponsored by Go Hotels (Roxaco-Asia Hospitality Corporation), SM Supermalls, Silver Swan PH and supported by Fujidenzo Appliances, King Sue Ham, Hotel Lucky Chinatown, Clara Olé, J&F Foods Corporation, and Tough Mama.
