LTO: Use agency hotline to report ‘wang-wang’

Land Transportation Office (LTO) chief Vigor Mendoza II urging the public to use the agency’s Aksyon on the Spot hotline 09292920865 to report motor vehicles that still use sirens and blinkers to comply with the “anti-wang-wang” directive of President Fderdinand Marcos Jr.

Apart from the government cars that are not authorized to use sirens and blinkers, the public can also report private vehicles that use sirens and blinkers, he said, citing all of these are illegal.

“We have been planning for a long time for your LTO to have a reliable hotline in response to the directive of our Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista to further intensify the rod safety measures due to the ongoing road rage and our campaign against colorum vehicles,” he said.

“But we made it even easier when our President issued an order against the illegal use of sirens and blinkers so that our countrymen could have a reliable platform for their complaints against those who disobey the order of our President,” he added.

The Chief Executive issued Administrative Order 18 stating that all government officials and personnel are prohibited from utilizing sirens, blinkers, and other similar gadgets that produce exceptionally loud or startling sound, including dome lights, blinkers, or other similar signaling or flashing devices.

“Unauthorized and improper use of signaling or flashing devices by government officials and employees shall be dealt with in accordance with applicable laws, rules and regulations,” the order read.

Sirens, blinkers and other similar devices shall not be used unless in clearly appropriate circumstances, and only by motor vehicles designated for official use by the Armed Forces of the Philippines, National Bureau of Investigation and Philippine National Police, and fire trucks, hospital ambulances and other emergency vehicles.
