Baguio boom seen after SC ruling against Camp John Hay

Baguio City is expected to facilitate more business opportunities after the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) was authorized by the Supreme Court to reclaim the 247-hectare property within the John Hay Special Economic Zone, the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI) in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) said in a statement Tuesday.

Camp John Hay Development Corp. (CJHDevCo) will soon vacate the BCDA-owned property as ordered by the Supreme Court, ending the so-called “period of uncertainty” and opening new opportunities to create new business in the area.

“We strongly support the national government in further creating a robust business environment in the region. We are confident that the ongoing efforts will yield remarkable results and create lasting changes for the better,” said PCCI-CAR regional governor Deimler Cuyan.

He said these new prospects would optimize the potential of Camp John Hay as a catalyst of economic growth in Baguio and the CAR.

The Supreme Court earlier affirmed the ruling of Baguio City Regional Trial Court, allowing the BCDA and JHMC to recover the 247-hectare property in John Hay Special Economic Zone and utilize it for the full interest and benefit of the government and of the Filipino people.
