No Pinoys hurt in twin Taiwan tremors

No Filipinos have been reported injured or killed in the twin earthquakes that struck Taiwan, according to the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).

“There are no immediate reports of injuries among overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), but MWOs in Taipei, Taichung, and Kaohsiung are reaching out to Filipino leaders, communities, employers, and trade associations to ascertain the status of OFWs,” the DMW said.

In an advisory, the DMW said Taiwan was struck by twin 5.9 quakes late Monday, just “minutes” apart and the Island was placed on high alert.

Taiwan’s Central Weather Administration reported the first quake at 5:45 p.m. while the second followed seven minutes later at 5:52 p.m.

The DMW said its migrant workers offices, together with the Overseas Workers’ Welfare Administration and the Manila Economic and Cultural Office are continuously monitoring the situation.

On April 3, a strong quake hit Taiwan and at least four Filipinos were injured during the earthquake.
