FESSAP nominates Arzaga-Mendoza to FISU Executive Legal Committee

“It is an immense pleasure and honor to have the Federation of School Sports Association of the Philippines (FESSAP) reappoint me once again to be a member of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) Legal Committee for the year 2024-2027,” said Maria Luz Arzaga-Mendoza upon the announcement of her nomination to the legal committee of the world governing body for university sports.

“The honor bestowed on me also brings as much honor to the country, in general, and the Federation of School Sports Association of the Philippines (FESSAP) in particular,” cited Mendoza.

This was the message of Mendoza, who has been connected with FESSAP since 2013 as the Legal Adviser to the FESSAP Board of Trustees and has been a member of the FISU Legal Committee since 2017.

Executives and Presidents of the FESSAP, past and present, have been supportive of Mendoza as a member of the FISU Legal Committee.

This is a vital position as it also defends the legal welfare of the FESSAP state university and private school members in the FISU organization. Mendoza has the unequivocal support of FESSAP past and present executive leaders such as Alvin Tai Lian, Dr. Godofredo E. Gallega, Teresita Abundo, David Ong, Baldomero Estenzo, Prof. Robert Milton Calo, Nenita V. Mendoza, Maria Cecilia Sarmiento, Dr. Diosdado Amante, Angel Ngu, Christian Tan, Dr. Jesus Rodrigo Torres, Dr. Gregorio J. Rodis, and current FESSAP president Edwin C. Fabro.

Luz, as close friends call her, is appreciative of FISU’s trust in her, allowing her to serve its international legal interests in the field of sports.

Mendoza is incredibly grateful to the international and local organizations that selflessly advocate for the wellness, welfare, and development of Filipino university athletes in the field of sports.

On the other hand, Mendoza’s leadership and good governance are truly worth in gold and have propelled the FESSAP to world prominence as the only university sports federation in the Philippines to be recognized by the FISU and other university sports institutions in the international scene.

Mendoza, in a recent interview, took the opportunity to congratulate Switzerland’s Leonz Eder for being elected to the presidency of FISU last November held in Geneva.

She also took note of the immense contribution of Eric Saintrond, FISU Secretary General, over the past two decades. Thank you to Paulo Ferreira for his wonderful advising approach to our federation.

The FESSAP likewise wishes the best of luck to the newly elected first Vice President from Brazil, Luciano Cabral, and the four FISU Vice Presidents, namely, Marian Dymalski (Poland), Miss Aligawesa Penninah Kabenge (Uganda) and Miss Liu Jin (China) and Miss Verena Burk (Germany), and all the FISU Executive Committee members’ Rosaura Mendez and the entire members.
