Maynilad Water Services Inc. inaugurated a modular treatment plant (MoTP) in Muntinlupa City on Wednesday to add 20 million liters per day (mld) of treated, potable water.
“Maynilad continues to adopt innovative solutions to meet the evolving water supply and treatment challenges, ensuring long-term resilience and sustainability. With this new facility, we are setting a milestone in municipal water treatment here in the Philippines, as we explore the potential of scaling similar technologies across other facilities,” said Maynilad president and chief executive Ramoncito Fernandez.
The Laguna Lake Modular Treatment Plant (ModTP), operated by Rendco-FFJJ Consortium under a build-operate-transfer agreement, uses ceramic ultrafiltration (UF) technology to treat raw water from Laguna Lake.
This significantly augments Maynilad’s existing production in Muntinlupa, which relies on Laguna Lake as a source.
The additional water supply from MoTP will enhance service reliability, particularly for Maynilad customers in southern areas.
The plant’s advanced treatment processes ensure consistent production even during fluctuating raw water quality in Laguna Lake, a growing concern due to climate change.
The ModTP uses other innovative technologies like ceramic flatsheet membranes, nanobubble technology, and a sludge dewatering press.
The plant achieves zero liquid discharge through a localized design, maximizing water conservation.
The advanced treatment system also reduces maintenance requirements, lower energy consumption and minimize chemical usage translating to cost-effectiveness and a smaller environmental footprint.
