The former chairman and CEO delved into what the council had managed to achieve under his leadership.

“During the last nineteen months, we managed to increase the financial support to our various stakeholders—from producers, directors, film workers, and students, to the film labs, workshops, and film festival assistance. We have continued partnerships with film exhibitors, institutions, festivals, and embassies to bring Philippine cinema to the world and the local audience back to the cinemas,” said Cruz.

He further recognized the efforts of the council members, employees, consultants, legislators, local and national officials of the government, and First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos in making the achievements of the FDCP within the last few years possible.

“I shall always be grateful to all of you,” said Cruz.

Cruz assured that while he will no longer take on the role of Chairperson, he will still continue being a part of the FDCP and that he will continue to support the local film industry through his work as an actor and a private citizen of the Philippines.

During a general assembly last March 11, Cruz had announced his resignation because of personal issues. He had taken on the role for one year and seven months.

“Since March 6, I am no longer the Chairman of FDCP. I am just Tirso Cruz III, the actor,” said Cruz.

Until President Marcos announces who will be appointed to the role, Education Head Rica Arevalo had been chosen by the FDCP Board of Trustees to become Officer-In-Charge.

The Film Development Council of the Philippines is the country’s national film council which is under the jurisdiction of the Office of the President of the Philippines.
