Perpetual Junior Altas, Squires record sixth wins

The Perpetual Junior Altas bounced back from a previous loss and recorded their sixth win following a 102-84 mauling of the Jose Rizal University Light Bombers in the National Collegiate Athletic Association Season 99 Juniors’ Basketball Tournament on Wednesday at the FilOil EcoOil Center in San Juan City.

Coach Joph Cleopas’ Altalettes beat the Kalentong boys to remain at the top with defending champion Letran Squires on similar 6-1 records.

Leading the Junior Altas was MVP frontrunner Amiel Acido, who posted a triple-double of 17 points, 18 rebounds and 10 assists and was named Best Player of the Game. 

JD Pagulayan had a game-high 24 points (6 of 12 in three-point area), 5 rebounds, 4 assists and a block.

Three more players registered double figures for Perpetual, namely Lebron Daep with 16 point, 8 assists; Mark Gojo Cruz with 14 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists; and Aries Borja with 14 points, 2 rebounds, 2 blocks and 2 steals.

The Squires, on the other hand, clobbered the Arellano University Braves, 106-85.

With the wins, Perpetual and Letran are now in the playoffs of the Final Four, with each team having two matches left. 

In other results, the San Sebastian College Recoletos Staglets won over La Salle Greenhills, 76-67; and San Beda whipped Emilio Aguinaldo College, 51-44.
