“Disturbing and inappropriate.”
This was how Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos described the remarks made by some local government officials who attended the “Hakbang ng Maisug” (Step of the Brave) rally held at the South Road Properties in Cebu City on Sunday, Feb. 25.
Abalos reminded all public officers that they “should set an example to our constituents as we represent our community, most especially the youth who are watching.”
“We should avoid using vulgar and abusive language. We can always communicate our opinions with civility. We must always keep in mind that the Code of Ethics of Public Officials requires that we carry ourselves with integrity, professionalism, and respect to all colleagues, and to all people at that,” the Interior chief said.
In his speech during the rally, former President Rodrigo Duterte mouthed the “f” word, but did not say it out loud.
Davao City Mayor Sebastian Duterte, meanwhile, was heard dropping several curse words in Tagalog as he lambasted other public officials.
