4.9-magnitude early morning quake hits Occidental Mindoro

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded a magnitude-4.9 tectonic earthquake at 4:46 a.m. Thursday with its epicenter traced at 13 kilometers west of Abra de Ilog, Occidental Mindoro.

Phivolcs initially measured the quake at 5.0. It was felt strongly in Abra de Ilog and Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro. Instrumental intensities were recorded as well in Calapan City, Tagaytay City in Cavite, and parts of Batangas including San Luis, Mataas na Kahoy, Cuenca and Batangas City.

The state seismic agency said no aftershocks are expected from this tremor, but damage to properties may occur.

Phivolcs also recorded lighter tectonic earthquakes in other provinces including Nueva Vizcaya, Davao Occidental, Surigao del Sur, Davao Oriental, Zambales, Bukidnon, and Agusan del Sur. No instrumental intensities were reported in these areas.
