Ayala-owned Amihan Renewable Energy Corp. (AREC) asked the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) to approve the construction of a point-to-point transmission facility to connect its 70-megawatt Caparispisan wind power plant to the Luzon Grid to pave the way for its commercial operations by the first quarter.
AREC, in a filing with the ERC, asked for approval to connect the Capa II wind project to the existing 115 kV line between the 81-MW Caparispisan wind project and the Laoag substation of the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP).
“AREC and NGCP are currently in the process of finalizing the terms of the O&M and service agreements for the interconnection of the 70 MW Capa II project to the Luzon grid through the dedicated facility project,” it said.
AREC said the dedicated facility project is the only viable option for connecting the Capa II project in view of its proximity to the NLR
The Capa II wind project is located in Barangays Subec, Caunayan and Caparispisan in Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte. It is being developed by AREC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of North Luzon Renewable Energy Corp. (NLRC), which also owns the existing 81-MW Caparispisan wind project completed in 2014.
ACEN Corp., the energy platform of the Ayala Group, owns an 81 percent economic stake in NLRC, while Diamond Generating Asia Ltd. held the balance.
AREC said the construction of the dedicate facility project is a pre-requisite for the testing and commissioning and ultimately, the commercial operations of the Capa II project by the first quarter.
