Malolos City—The simultaneous tax compliance and verification drive
(TCVD) launched by the Bureau of Internal Revenue in Bulacan over the weekend revealed a host of crafty and suspicious practices of business owners to avoid paying the correct taxes.
Aside from the prevalent non-issuance of cash invoices and official receipts (OR), composite inspection teams of the Revenue District Office – RDO-25B (East Bulacan) and RDO-25A (West Bulacan) discovered multiple other malpractices.
These included he use of unlicensed cash register (P-O-S) machines; use of expired ORs, and numerous unregistered businesses operating along McArthur Highway from Malolos to Calumpit; Baliuag, Meycauayan and City of San Jose Del Monte.
East Bulacan RDO chief Celestino Viernes said they also called out the owner of a wellness shop operating in Sta. Maria town who was found to be using its advance OR booklets, although its booklet No. 1 and No. 2 are not yet used, and with some of the original (copy for customers) still untorn from its booklet.
West Bulacan RDO chief Raymund Ranchez said the simultaneous TCVD launched nationwide, spearheaded by BIR Commissioner Romeo Lumagui, Jr., was a friendly-type of inspection and reminder to business owners to comply with tax rules.
“The TCVD was a sort of educational tax campaign without imposing any penalty to violators but were merely advised to promptly comply with existing tax regulations,” Ranchez said.
The East and West Bulacan RDOs are part of Revenue Regional Office No. 5, headed by Regional Director Atty. Gerry Dumayas, that includes the Revenue District Offices of Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas and Valenzuela (Camanava).
The BIR regional office ranked 5th highest in terms of revenue collections nationwide last year with a total of P35.86 billion surpassing its goal of P35.69 billion.
The outstanding tax collection performance of the regional office was attributed to the P17.61 billion joint tax collections of East and West Bulacan that accounted for almost 50 percent of BIR Region 5.
Nina Federizo, RDO25-B assistant chief, said their office collected a total of P8.611-Billion last year that surpassed its collection goal of P7.839 billion by some P772 million, or an increase of 9.85 percent.
RDO-25A, on the otherhand, collected a total revenue of P9 billion surpassing its target goal of P8.876 million, with a total collection of P750 million for the month of December alone, surpassing its goal of P677 million, according to assistant RDO Venus Lee.
