Vilma Santos sets sights on iconic projects after MMFF triumph

After bagging the Best Actress plum in the recently-concluded 49th Metro Manila Film Festival for When I Met You in Tokyo, Vilma Santos announces that she’ll be busy with showbiz projects this 2024.

In considering her next career moves, she asserts that she is content with her comeback to the industry. The Star for All Seasons reveals a preference for film projects with compelling storylines that resonate with her, acknowledging that despite multiple offers, final decisions are yet to be made.

Looking ahead to the upcoming year, she anticipates working on at least one movie annually.

“I’m looking forward to doing at least one movie a year. But I’m dreaming that it would be in the league of Sister Stella L, Bata, Bata, Paano Ka Ginawa?, or Dekada ’70. I miss doing those kind of films,” she admits.

Despite being a veteran Best Actress winner, Ate Vi points out that it doesn’t mean she’ll stop honing her craft.

“It doesn’t mean that when you win an award, you’re already the best. Not it’s not. Every day is a learning process and you really have to hone your craft. You shouldn’t stop learning and improving. The object of the game is longevity so you just have to aim for the best. Make sure you love your career and it will love you back!” ends Ate Vi.

In a recent television interview, Derrick Monasterio shed light on the persistent speculation about his sexual orientation.

“For the record, I’m not gay!” he said. “And I don’t think there’s something wrong in being gay. There’s nothing wrong with being straight. We’re all human beings!”

The hunky actor declared that he is not affected by the malicious rumor about his gender.

“I’m more bothered with the fact that they make a big fuss about being gay. Being one doesn’t make you less of a person. Perhaps, people should be more open-minded at this point. It’s not good to pick on a person’s being gay or fat or ugly,” he went.

Derrick’s girlfriend, Elle Villanueva, who was with him during their guesting for the promo of their new afternoon soap Makiling averred that she too is not affected by the nasty speculation on the appealing actor.

“I heard about it before and I find it funny,” she stated.

“When we were doing our maiden show together ‘Return to Paradise’, I was asking myself if the rumor is true since that’s what people said.

“And then I realized, he grew up in the showbiz industry in the company of gays. His mom is a former actress, right (Tina Monasterio). He’s just used to the way gay people talk or act because he got exposed to them early on.”

The couple also rectified the circulating rumor that they’re already living together.

“No, we’re not on a live-in set-up. But we sleep over at each other’s house. I sleep over in his abode and vice-versa. But definitely, we’re not living together!” Elle mused.

On his part, Derrick said: “But I have plans to live with her in the future.”
