Nine overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and five children are now home safe after fleeing the fighting in Lebanon between Israeli forces and Hezbollah militants.
The Department of Foreign (DFA) said the group arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 in Pasay City via flight PAL PR685.
Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Assistant Secretaries Venecio Legaspi and Francis Ron de Guzman were on hand to welcome the repatriated OFWs and the children.
The OFWs received aid from the DMW and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), including on-site assistance and reintegration services.
So far, a total of 111 OFWs in Lebanon have been repatriated to the Philippines.
On October 21, the DFA placed Lebanon under Alert Level 3 in light of the rising tension between Israeli forces and Lebanon’s Hezbollah militants due to Hamas attacks.
Alert Level 3 means the DFA is calling for a voluntary repatriation of Filipinos in the affected country.
On December 10, violence escalated at Lebanon’s border with Israel, according to a Reuters report.
Hezbollah deployed explosive drones and powerful missiles at Israeli positions while Israeli air strikes hit several towns and villages in south Lebanon.
