THE Office for Transportation Security (OTS) is spearheading an information campaign to apprise air travelers about airport rules and regulations to prevent delays and inconvenience during the holiday season.
The campaign aims to educate public about the do’s and don’ts in security screening, as well as the processes at the airport, emphasizing the importance of cooperation and adherence to security protocols. I
The drive is being carried out through pamphlets and the media.
OTS officer-in-charge Assistant Secretary Jose Briones Jr. said the public awareness campaign is in line with the government’s “Oplan Biyaheng Ayos 2023” to ensure the safety and security of travelers.
Briones also reminded passengers to check for the list of prohibited items before their scheduled flight.
OTS screening officers Laurence Sulit and Arvin Garcia have intercepted an airsoft gun from a Tacloban-bound passenger at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 2, while conducting the usual security screening procedures.
The banned item was found in the possession of a Philippine Airlines passenger.
The incident was recorded by the OTS, and the item was handed over to the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group for proper disposal.
“We also remind our passengers to check the OTS website or Facebook page to find out the list of things that are prohibited on the plane and at the airport.
What we want is for their trip to be seamless and stress-free, so we encourage them to be prepared and aware of the policies implemented by our Security Screening Officers,” Briones said.
He added that “guns, bullets or things like airsoft guns are strictly prohibited in carry on man or in checked-in baggage.”
