The Office for Transportation Security (OTS) said it is implementing measures to ensure secure and comfortable travel this holiday season.
The agency has also launched a project dubbed “Oplan Biyaheng Ayos: Pasko 2023” which was started on Dec. 15, 2023, and will last until Jan. 3, 2024.
The OTS has initiated the cancellation of vacation leaves for airport Security Screening Officers, who are essential frontline personnel for security screening.
Security auditors are also conducting 24/7 monitoring in airports, sea ports, bus terminals, and rail stations, ensuring real-time assessment and response to potential security threats.
OTS Officer-in-Charge Assistant Secretary Jose Briones Jr. also said the agency activated its Transportation Security Operations Center to enhance coordination and response capabilities.
He added the centralized hub facilitates monitoring security incidents, seamless coordination with transport stakeholders, and swift communication with relevant government agencies.
A public awareness campaign was also launched to educate passengers about security screening procedures and airport processes, emphasizing cooperation and adherence to security protocols. Information is disseminated through various media channels.
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Saturday meanwhile said that it has monitored 16,480 outbound passengers and 13,222 inbound passengers in all ports nationwide.
The PCG said that it has deployed 2,6300 frontline personnel in 15 districts.
Increased security measures were implemented at PCG’s districts, stations, and sub-stations from Dec. 15 to Jan. 3 next year to handle the surge of travelers, the PCG said.
“The PCG has placed its districts, stations, and sub-stations on heightened alert from 15 December to 03 January 2023 to manage the influx of port passengers,” the Coast Guard said.
Coast Guard urged port passengers to coordinate with its official Facebook page or the Coast Guard Public Affairs Service for any concerns and clarifications during the Holiday season. With Charles Dantes
