MARAGONDON, Cavite — Local products made of bamboo took center stage here as this historic town held its 7th Kawayan Festival over four days.
Jacinta Remulla, daughter of Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla, led the opening festivities and the opening of the Agri-Tourism Community Trade Fair featuring local products at the town plaza in Barangay Poblacion.
One of the events highlighting the festival was the street dance competition, in which Santa Mercedez National High School tried to defend the title against 15 local challengers on Friday morning.
The Grand Zumba among women and elderly took place on Friday afternoon.
A Fun Nature Walk led by Mayor Lawrence “Umbe” Arca also took place in collaboration with the Philippine Reclamation Authority.
The four-day festivities are capped by the Habing Maragondon Fashion Show on Sunday, Dec. 17.
The show, held in collaboration with the Philippine Textile Research Institute-Department of Science and Technology, will feature the bamboo textiles which the town is known for.
