Groups deplore destabilization rumors against Marcos gov’t

A leading labor organization has dismissed alleged destabilization plot against the Marcos administration as an attempt to derail government attempt to rejoin the International Criminal Court (ICC).

Meanwhile, a youth group also announced its opposition to the threat of destabilization against the Marcos government.

The Bukluran ng mga Mangagawang Pilipino (BMP) noted that the destabilization issue against the government of Ferdinand Marcos Jr. arose amid heated debates on the country’s regaining its membership in the ICC.

BMP president Gie Relova said the possibility of allowing the Marcos administration to initiate an investigation into mass killings under former President Rodrigo Duterte’s “War on Drugs” campaign, as well as alleged similar crimes committed under Duterte’s tenure as Davao City could be misinterpreted as a result of destabilization rumors.

The BMP believed that Duterte’s allies and supporters appeared to be “very worried” about the possibility of the former leader being arrested and tried by the ICC, thus the information campaign line that “no foreign court will can interfere with the legal system of the Philippines.”

The BMP surmised that the real purpose of the destabilization talks was to derail the government’s inclination to rejoin the ICC.

The BMP warned that initiators or perpetrators of heinous crimes against the people should be held accountable.

According to Youth4IntegrityPH spokesman Antonio De Leon, “any threat to the country’s order affects the country’s economy.

“So instead of weakening the administration, let’s help strengthen the country’s governance for the future of the youth,” De Leon said.

The group expressed their solidarity with the soldiers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Philippine Coast Guard and Philippine National Police in upholding the integrity of the Philippines against anyone who wants to occupy the country’s territory. The youths are referring to the Philippines and China  territorial disputes in the West Philippine Sea.
