The Society of Philippine Entertainment Editors (SPEEd) celebrated the best in Filipino filmmaking at the glittering 6th Eddys or Entertainment Editors’ Choice, held at the Aliw Theater in Pasay City on November 26. The event recognized the outstanding achievements of individuals and productions that have enriched Philippine cinema over the past year.
Blue Room and Family Matters emerged as the top winners of the evening, each taking home the coveted Best Film award. Nuel Crisostomo Naval’s masterful direction of Family Matters earned him the Best Director award, while Max Eigenmann and Janine Gutierrez shared the Best Actress accolade for their compelling performances in 12 Weeks and Bakit ‘Di Mo Sabihin?, respectively. Elijah Canlas’ captivating portrayal in Blue Room garnered him the Best Actor award.
The supporting categories also saw notable recognition, with Nikki Valdez and Mon Confiado receiving Best Supporting Actress and Best Supporting Actor awards for their standout performances in Family Matters and Nanahimik ang Gabi, respectively.
Creative excellence was also celebrated at the Eddys. Mel Mendoza del Rosario’s captivating screenplay for Family Matters was awarded Best Screenplay, while Moises Zee’s masterful cinematography in Nanahimik ang Gabi earned him the Best Cinematography award. Marxie Maolen Fadul’s intricate production design for Blue Room received the Best Production Design award, and Vanessa de Leon’s seamless editing in the same film was recognized with the Best Editing award.
The musical talents behind the films were also applauded. Jazz Nicolas and Mikey Amistoso’s captivating score for Blue Room won Best Musical Score, while Andrea Teresa Idioma and Emilio Bien Sparks’ exceptional sound design in Nanahimik ang Gabi garnered the Best Sound award. Carl Regis Abuel, Tricia Bernasor, and Geraldine Co won Best Visual Effects for LiveScream.
The Eddys also paid tribute to the individuals who have made significant contributions to Philippine cinema. Aga Muhlach, Niño Muhlach, and Snooky Serna were honored with the Movie Icon award for their enduring impact on the industry.
Herbert Bautista, Coco Martin, and Piolo Pascual were recognized with the Isah V. Red Award for their unwavering support and inspiration to fellow Filipinos.
Veteran entertainment columnist, former TV host, and content creator Aster Amoyo received the Joe Quirino Award for her invaluable contributions to the entertainment industry.
Renowned writer Ed de Leon was honored with the Manny Pichel Award for his exceptional work in the field.
Viva Films was named Producer of the Year, while MavX Productions was recognized as the Rising Producer of the Year.
The awards night was directed by Erik Quizon and hosted by Piolo Pascual and Iza Calzado. The event witnessed performances by Pops Fernandez, Darren Espanto, Erik Santos, Jaime Rivera, and P-pop group Calista
