US President Joe Biden will head to the southern state of Georgia to attend a memorial for former first lady Rosalynn Carter next week, the White House said Wednesday.
Rosalynn Carter, the wife of former president Jimmy Carter, died Sunday at 96.
The president, First Lady Jill Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and her husband Douglas Emhoff will also attend the “tribute service,” to be held in Atlanta on Tuesday, for their fellow Democrat, the White House said.
Rosalynn Carter was best known for her work post-White House, as she and her husband, 99, championed human rights, democracy and health issues around the world — all while maintaining a notably humble public image.
She had joined her husband in at-home hospice care at their house in Plains, Georgia, her family announced last Friday, after being diagnosed with dementia in May.
