Jacket weather: Amihan drops temps to 11.3°C

Jacket and sweater weather is finally here, the state weather bureau declared Tuesday, as temperatures dipped to a low 11.3 degrees Celsius station at the Benguet State University in La Trinidad, Benguet yesterday morning.

That was the country’s coldest recorded temperature in the “amihan” or northeast monsoon season so far, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

Meanwhile, the rest of Luzon, including Metro Manila, will continue to enjoy nippy weather brought by the monsoon winds.

Temperatures in Northern Luzon dipped early morning Monday, as Baguio City also recorded its lowest temperature yet this season at 13.4°C.

Metro Manila also reported its lowest temperature so far at 22.4°C at the Science Garden station in Quezon City.

According to GMA weather expert Anjo Pertierra, the lowest temperature ever recorded in the country was 6.3°C in Baguio last January 18, 1961.

The amihan is the wind that comes from the north of the globe and lasts roughly between October to March in any given year.
