P70m in flood control projects completed in Isabela, Romblon

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the construction of two flood control projects in Isabela and Romblon worth nearly P70 million.

DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan said the flood-prone barangay in Tumauini, Isabela is now safeguarded against the perennial threat of flooding with the completion of a river wall structure.

Completed was the 1.22-kilometer river wall made of gabion structure in Barangay Antagan II, Tumauini which will alleviate fears about agricultural loss during the rainy season.

The river wall structure is a robust defense against erosion to safeguard fertile farmlands in the area, the DPWH said.

The project was completed in the amount of P49 million funded under the 2023 General Appropriations Act (GAA).

Meanwhile, the DPWH Romblon has completed the construction of the P19.5 million  seawall that will protect the coastal community in Barangay Calabasahan, Concepcion, Romblon.

The project will protect the community from storm surges, sea wave actions, and soil erosion, which may cause damage to lives, properties, and livelihoods, especially during severe weather conditions.

The completed seawall which spans 228 meters and stands four meters was constructed when the old seawall structure could no longer protect the area from the waves.
