Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista said Wednesday the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) is ready to handle at least 138,000 passengers daily during the holidays.
Meanwhile, the Bureau of Immigration is set to put in place the modernization of equipment at the international airports after the Senate approved the agency’s P2.67 billion budget request.
Bautista said NAIA’s recent preparations for “Undas” (the All Saints’ Day holiday) and recent Barangay Elections were a barometer for the coming Christmas season, with an expected increase of another 8,000 passengers per day.
Also, Commissioner Norman Tansingco said modernization of the BI’s system aims to make the application process easier and encourage foreigners to obtain proper documents and to catch up with neighboring countries.
Majority of the budget was intended for the modernization of the BI’s operations, particularly at the airports, he added.
