Repower commissions 1.4-MW hydropower plant in Quezon

Repower Energy Development Corp. said it successfully commissioned on Wednesday the 1.4-megawatt Lower Labayat run-of-river (ROR) hydropower plant in Barangay Labayat, Real, Quezon province.

This is the eighth ROR hydropower plant in REDC’s portfolio. The plant is operated by REDC affiliate Blue Energy Holdings and Management Corp. (BEHMC) headed by businessman Christopher Tiu.

“We are proud to have finally completed this meaningful project that certainly benefits our stakeholders, despite the challenges encountered. We thank our many partners for the support in making this project a reality,” said Tiu.

The new plant uses the downstream of the Labayat river to produce clean renewable energy.  It is located between the operating Upper Labayat and Tibag hydropower plants.

All three operating ROR hydropower plants of REDC are connected via the 69-kV transmission line that in turn is connected to the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines.

REDC appointed Flovel Energy of India as the provider of the electro-mechanical turbines and generators.

“The year 2023 for REDC has been truly a period of aggressive expansion to provide clean energy to under electrified communities in provinces, and this ROR hydropower plant in Barangay Labayat is a testament to the success we are currently experiencing,” REDC president Eric Peter Roxas said.

“We look forward to continuing enhancing our services to the key markets we operate in so that we can uplift our stakeholders’ standards of living,” he said.
