Gabby Concepcion clarified on Wednesday that he and fellow actor Albert Martinez were on good terms. During a press conference for an education program, the topic shifted to Albert’s past relationship with Sharon Cuneta.
“Bati na kami, ha?” quipped Gabby when Albert’s relationship with singer-actress Sharon Cuneta resurfaced during the press conference of the education program.
The topic turned to Albert when Gabay Guro Chairperson Chaye Cabal-Revilla started to ask him if he was the first boyfriend of the Megastar.
Gabby, who was once married to Sharon and is the father of her eldest daughter, KC Concepcion, addressed the matter while Albert responded with a smile and jokingly remarked that he might have ended up at the wrong event.
“Si Sharon, ang first boyfriend niya si Albert! Tama ba? Parang nabasa ko ‘yun dati nu’ng bata pa ako,” asked Chaye.
“Huy, Albert, ‘di ba totoo ‘yun? Nabasa ko ‘yun dati sa magazine,” she repeated.
That’s when Gabby entered and clarified his friendship with Albert.
“Hindi. Sila ni Snooky [Serna],” replied Gabby.
The press conference aimed to promote the “Gabay Guro” educational program, a joint initiative of Metro Pacific Investments Corporation (MPIC), Metro Pacific Investments Foundation (MPIF), and PLDT-Smart Foundation (PSF). The event, titled “Pagpupugay at Pasasalamat kay Ma’am at Sir,” was a tribute concert for teachers, celebrating their dedication and sacrifices for the Filipino youth.
When asked if they could attend the concert scheduled for October 4, both actors explained that they had work commitments on that day. Gabby mentioned his availability for the program, stating that they would be ready to support him whenever Chaye called them. Albert explained that he had a prior work commitment, shooting for Pedro Penduko for the Metro Manila Film Festival.
Despite their busy schedules, both Gabby and Albert expressed their unwavering support for Gabay Guro. Albert emphasized the importance of supporting teachers, calling them unsung heroes, and highlighted how Gabay Guro has brought them to the forefront.
“Personally, the reason I am very supportive kasi ito ‘yung area na kailangan talaga ng tulong. Sila ‘yung our heroes na medyo hindi napapansin,” explained Albert.
“And when Miss Chaye created Gabay Guro, nabigyan sila ng focus. So now, hindi lang sila on the side pero naka-front na sila. Kumbaga, sila na ‘yung top heroes natin ngayon,” he added.
Gabby shared his personal connection to the cause, mentioning that his mother-in-law was a teacher and that he readily accepted the opportunity to support the program when he first heard about it.
“Ang sa akin, simple lang. When I first heard about it, naging automatic ‘yun at magaan kong tinanggap because my mother-in-law ay teacher,” Gabby said.
