‘Take alternate roads in areas affected by Skyway 3 project’

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has advised motorists to use alternative routes during a two-day temporary closure of some roads due to the on-going Skyway Stage 3 Project works.

“To give way to the concrete pouring of coping beams as part of the Metro Manila Skyway Stage 3 Project, a temporary full road closure shall be implemented on both Eastbound and Westbound starting 10 p.m. on October 21 until 7 p.m. of October 22,” the MMDA said in an advisory.

Areas affected covered Valenzuela Street corner Tomas Claudio Street facing westbound motorists (Valenzuela Street to Beata Street bound), Beata Street corner Tomas Claudio Street facing eastbound motorists (Beata Street to Valenzuela Street bound), Quirino Avenue corner Tomas Claudio Street facing eastbound motorists (Quirino Avenue to Beata and Valenzuela Streets bound), and Quirino Avenue corner Jesus Street facing eastbound motorists (Quirino Avenue to Beata and Valenzuela Streets bound).

“Motorists are advised to take alternate routes to avoid inconvenience,” the MMDA stated.

MMDA officials said the Skyway 3 project was included in the list of the government’s long-term solution to the worsening traffic problem in Metro Manila.

The Skyway Stage 3 project is a 14.8-kilometer elevated tollway that connects Skyway and South Luzon Expressway – Gil Puyat Avenue in Makati City to North Luzon Expressway – Balintawak in Quezon City under the government’s “Build, Build, Build” program initiated by former President Rodrigo Duterte.

The government came up with the project based on a recommendation by the Japan International Cooperation Agency in its comprehensive study “Roadmap for Transport Infrastructure Development for Metro Manila and Its Surrounding Areas.”
