Actress Ophelia Lovibond on fashion storytelling in ‘Minx’ comedy series

The vibrant costumes in the comedy series Minx transport viewers straight into the heart of the 1970s. Conceived and penned by Ellen Rapoport, the show revolves around Joyce (Ophelia Lovibond), a young and ardent feminist who teams up with a budget-conscious publisher (Jake Johnson) to launch the first-ever erotic magazine for women.

In the series, the clothing choices are more than just wardrobe; they are essential storytelling tools, portraying the era’s essence.

In discussing the show, Lovibond, the lead actress, emphasized the pivotal role that fashion plays, asserting, “Costume’s a massive character – it’s a huge part of the show. It’s definitely something that our viewers have enjoyed digesting… You see Joyce quite buttoned up, and towards the end of Season 1, she starts to kind of release the pussybow.”

Despite her evolving style, Joyce remains clad in three-piece suits, using her attire as a form of armor. Lovibond pointed out that Joyce’s newfound confidence, stemming from fame and financial success, is mirrored in her wardrobe choices.

Lovibond elaborated, “She’s been frightened of looking too much like a woman for fear of being undermined and not taken seriously. But now that she has a solid footing in the business world, she feels comfortable not having to adopt a more masculine dress code to earn respect.”

Minx newest season is streaming exclusively in the Philippines on Lionsgate powered by PLDT Home.
