Pirates face Chiefs, eye 5th straight NCAA win

The Lyceum Pirates may own a four-game winning streak in the NCAA now. But this is not the time for them to let their guards down.

Pirates’ coach Gilbert Malabanan said this as Lyceum has gained momentum very early and moved ahead to the solo lead of the 99th National Collegiate Athletic Association men’s basketball tournament.

A fifth straight victory against the Arellano University Chiefs in their 2 p.m. matchup on Friday at the FilOil-EcoOil Arena will solidify the Pirates’ hold on the solo lead.

“I don’t want for us to relax because we’re 4-0, but we still need to work. Like I said, this is not our goal,” said Malabanan.

“Our goal is going to the top and and to the finals and championship. Right now, we need to put in the work,” added Malabanan.

The Pirates are in the early stages of their quest to make it back it to finals.

This early, the squad hopes to match the performance of the team back in 2017, when a CJ Perez-led Lyceum pulled off an 18-game sweep.

Later in the afternoon, the Letran Knights will clash with the San Beda Red Lions, eyeing their first triumph in four outings.
