The National Innovation Council (NIC) launched the National Innovation Agenda and Strategy Document (NIASD) for 2023-2032 on Sept. 27, 2023.
It said the launch with the theme “Reshaping the Future, Advancing Filipinnovation” aimed to ignite enthusiasm, foster collaboration and engage all innovation stakeholders in the implementation of the innovation agenda and strategies to promote Filipinnovation—the whole-of-nation call and commitment to accelerate Philippine progress through innovation.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., who is also the NIC chairperson, led the event, along with National Economic and Development Authority Secretary and vice chairperson Arsenio Balisacan and members of the council from the government and private sectors at the Manila Metropolitan Theater.
“The very theme of our event today signifies our envisioned future where our citizens can organically transform their knowledge and novel ideas into market-driven, market-oriented, and market-valued innovative products or services,” Balisacan said in his welcome remarks.
The NIASD, appproved on June 30, 2023, outlines the 10-year vision, long-term goals and strategies for improving the country’s innovation priorities and governance.
It describes the country’s unwanted and wanted futures, which are anchored on Filipinos’ collective aspiration for a matatag, maginhawa at panatag na buhay, or the AmBisyon Natin 2040.
The document is aligned with the Philippine Development Plan (PDP) 2023-2028, which identifies the creation of a dynamic innovation ecosystem as one of its six cross-cutting strategies to sustain rapid and inclusive growth.
The plan also underscores the government’s commitment to providing an enabling environment that supports entrepreneurs and innovation actors, through five innovation enablers including the NIC as the innovation governing body, policies, infrastructure, finance and programs.
The formulation of the NIASD followed a collaborative and forward-looking approach, benefitting from inputs from the academe, international experts, the business sector and various government agencies.
It was designed to address the needs of innovators at every stage of the innovation process, from ideation to commercialization.
