THE Department of Transportation (DOTr) on Friday assured passengers of MRT 3 that the mass rail system is safe notwithstanding a bomb threat.
Upon receipt of an alleged bomb threat via e-mail early this morning, Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista immediately activated an inter-agency task force to “enhance security deployment in all transportation sectors.”
The task force consisted of the DOTR Office for the Office for the Transportation Security, Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Cybercrime Investigation Coordinating Center, Philippine National Police and Railway Security.
“The task force would like to assure commuters that we are taking all actions to ensure safe and secure travel in all public transport systems,” DOTr said.
The agency also said the government was taking necessary precautionary measures to ensure the safety and security of the riding public.
“We appeal to netizens to refrain from circulating and sharing unverified information so as not to cause undue panic,” the DOTr said.
“We are conducting continuous assessment as to the credibility of the threat as the basis for our next actions,” it added.
The MRT3 system runs from North Ave. in Quezon City to Taft Ave. in Pasay CIty. In 2022, the facility served a total of 98,330,683 passengers, a huge
improvement from the past two years.
The figure was more than double of the 45,691,914 total ridership in 2021, and of the 31,887,174 total in 2020.
