Tropical Depression ‘Dodong’ crosses Isabela; Signal No. 1 up in 11 provinces

Tropical Depression “Dodong” made landfall on Isabela province early Friday and raised Signal No. 1 over 11 provinces in Northern Luzon, , the state weather bureau said.

Aside from Isabela, Storm Signal No. 1 was also raised over Cagayan, Apayao, Kalinga, Abra, Mountain Province, Ifugao, Benguet, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, La Union, and the northern part of Pangasinan.

The low-pressure area east of Baler, Aurora developed into a tropical depression at 8 p.m. Thursday, the country’s 4th storm this year. It moved across the Luzon landmass and exited Isabela at Dinapigue town at 3 a.m., the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration said.

The storm bore maximum sustained winds of 45 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 60 km/h, moving west northwestward at 15 km/h, as the southwest monsoon is affecting Central and Southern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

PAGASA had said the LPA it monitored east of Virac, Catanduanes would develop into a tropical depression over the weekend in either the eastern or western part of northern Luzon.

The trough of the storm unleashed scattered rain showers and thunderstorms on the Bicol Region, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, and Samar; the northern portion of Palawan including Calamian, Cuyo, and Kalayaan Islands; and Western Visayas and Zamboanga Peninsula, according to PAGASA’s previous 24-hour bulletin.
