Bureau of Immigration (BI) authorities arrested a South Korean woman wanted in her country for fraud.
The Korean, identified as Kim Yerum, is now in BI custody following her arrest in Angeles City, Pampanga by members of the bureau’s fugitive search unit (FSU).
Kim was arrested on the strength of a deportation warrant issued by Tansingco based on a summary deportation order which the BI board of commissioners issued against the Korean in October 2021.
She was ordered deported after South Korean authorities informed the BI about her presence in the country and her record as a wanted fugitive in Korea.
Kim is presently detained at the BI warden facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City while awaiting deportation.
BI-FSU acting chief Rendel Ryan Sy disclosed that Kim is also subject of a red notice from the Interpol in March 2020, or seven months after an arrest warrant for fraud was issued against her by the Suwon district court in Korea.
Sy said Kim was accused of being a member of a voice phishing syndicate called “Minjun family” that has been operating since 2017.
The syndicate allegedly preys on their compatriots in Korea who are tricked into giving their money and revealing personal information due to fraudulent phone calls made by the suspects to the victims.
Sy added that Kim is already an undocumented alien as her passport was already revoked by the Korean government.
