Athletes seeing action in the Philippine Sports Commission’s Batang Pinoy National Championships got a big pat on the back from Senator Edgardo “Sonny” Angara.
Angara has allotted P5 million to the country’s centerpiece grassroots development program currently being held in Ilocos Sur.
The country’s sports-funding agency under chair Noli Eala and commissioner Olivia “Bong” Coo then decided to give the much-needed assistance straight to the athletes, who will get P1,000 each.
More than 6,000 are seeing action in the six-day meet with half of them are in Ilocos Sur where eight sports disciplines are being played.
The other half was scheduled to compete online.
Face-to-face events in Ilocos Sur are archery, badminton, chess, table tennis, swimming, track and field, weightlifting, and obstacle racing while arnis, dancesport, judo, karate, muay, Pencak silat, taekwondo, and wushu are being done online and streamed on the PSC’s Facebook and YouTube platforms.
