The Department of Health (DOH) Metro Manila Center for Health Development launched on Monday the “Vax-Baby-Vax Routine Catch-up Immunization Campaign” at Lakeshore Hall, Taguig.
The DOH said in a statement that the Vax-Baby-Vax Routine Catch-up Immunization Campaign aims to vaccinate 0-23 months old babies that will protect them from vaccine-preventable diseases.
The campaign also targets to increase the knowledge and awareness of the safety and efficacy of vaccines among family decision-makers to drive behavior change with the help of government agencies, local government units, organizations and the private sector, the DOH said.
The Taguig City government meanwhile has vaccinated more than 10,000 individuals at various schools through its One-Stop Shop COVID-19 Bakuna for children aged 5 to 17 years old.
The city also joined the Pinaslakas Immunization Campaign initiated by the DOH for the resumption of the face to face classes in the country.
Mayor Laarni Cayetano said at least 10,000 individuals have been vaccinated in the city with their first dose, second dose, and first and second booster through the vaccination drive conducted in 23 elementary and high schools.
She said teaching and non-teaching personnel of every school were among those who have received their COVID-19 vaccination.
The local government is set to visit more schools in the city to conduct
COVID-19 vaccination for students and education frontliners. This is to further ensure everyone’s safety upon the school reopening and encourage more people to get their booster shots once eligible.
The PinasLakas campaign is part of the DOH’s nationwide Program to inoculate 90% of senior citizens and increase booster coverage of all eligible population to 50% by targeting individuals from various communities including schools, marketplaces, and transportation terminals.
Taguig had coordinated with the Department of Education – Division Office to expand and intensify the COVID-19 vaccination program for children in preparation for face-to-face classes.
As of October 28, 2022, the city has administered a total of 2,124,944 jabs. 915,159 individuals are vaccinated while 869,922 are fully vaccinated. 327,066 had received their first booster and 39,739 had received their second booster.
As the city promotes and supports the national immunization campaign of DOH, the local government also continues to encourage everyone to get their booster shots to be able to safely go out and protect themselves and their loved ones from COVID-19. With Joel E. Zurbano
