School cancels classes due to bomb threat

Classes in Taguig City’s Signal Village National High School have been suspended Monday after the school received a bomb threat.

Taguig police commander Col. Robert Baesa said a dummy social media account bearing the name Sofia Smith also commented on Signal Village National High School’s Facebook Live and threatened to kill all the students “like what happened in Thailand.”

The comment read:

“Humanda na kyo mamya sa pagpasok ng mga panghapon. Binabalaan ko kayong lahat na humanda mamaya haha papsukin niyo lhat ng estudyante mamaya. Papatayin ko lahat g mga estudyante sa Taguig Signal Village. Kagaya ng nangyare sa Thailand humanda kayo magpapasabog ako dyan sa Signal papatayin ko kayong lahat.”

Local officials said the information has been circulated and it has been verified to be a hoax.

But according to Baesa, the police force is implementing measures to ensure the safety of the students amid threats and intimidation monitored on a Facebook live.

“We, the PNP Taguig together with the Local Goverment Unit are committed to undertake measures to protect the Taguigeños especially the students against threats, intimidation, and crimes, including those perpetuated through social media platforms,” said Baesa.

“We are currently conducting validation of the screenshot of the comment message circulating online and also an in-depth investigation with the PNP-Anti Cybercrime Group on the immediate identification of the suspect,” he added.

Baesa tapped his men from the Police Sub-Station 6 in coordination with the Special Weapons and Tactics, Explosive Ordnance Division and K9 unit team to conduct panelling and patrolling in all schools in Taguig, especially in Signal Village.

“Right now, Signal Village is suspending classes to alleviate the fear and panic of the people in this post. While our police force is taking all measures to ensure the safety of our students and all staff in the schools, we encourage everyone to be calm, alert and immediately report suspicious things or actions to us,” he said.
