The Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor and Department of Labor and Employment are set to sign a memorandum of agreement to strengthen their partnership in providing genuine service to the country’s marginalized and underprivileged sectors.
PCUP chairperson Elpidio Jordan Jr. discussed with DOLE workers’ welfare and protection cluster Assistant Secretary Dominique Rubia-Tutay and labor employment officer Erickson Mag-isa pointers on how to expand their partnership.
This would give broader access for urban poor groups to avail of livelihood and employment opportunities.
Under its mandate, PCUP serves as a link to government agencies in fulfilling its responsibility of promoting and protecting the rights of urban poor organizations and communities, including informal settler families, and providing them with assistance aimed at improving the plight of the poor.
Jordan vowed to stand firm in their mandate to support the pro-poor initiatives and poverty alleviation program of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
“We will not leave a single stone unturned in helping our urban poor,” he said.
