371 PDLs released, 350+ seek pardon

A total of 371 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) were released simultaneously from the prison facilities of the Bureau of Corrections on Tuesday, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla said Tuesday.

FREED. About 370 persons deprived of liberty (PDL), mostly elderly and infirm, are gathered at the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City as they are granted freedom coinciding with President Ferdinand Marcos’ 65th birthday on Tuesday.

At the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City, Remulla witnessed the release of the PDLs, including 31 who had been acquitted of their criminal charges, 98 who had been granted parole, two who benefitted under probation, and 240 who had served their maximum jail terms.

Assisting them are Bureau of Corrections Director General Usec. Gerald Bantag and Public Attorney’s Office chief Persida Acosta.

Aside from those released, Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) Chief Persida V. Rueda-Acosta said a list of over 350 PDLs recommended for pardon and commutation of sentence has been sent for the approval of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., who celebrated his birthday on Sept. 13.
