COVID attack rate now ‘low,’ says OCTA

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) average daily attack rate (ADAR) in the National Capital Region (NCR) is now considered “low” at 5.98, independent monitoring OCTA Research Group said Tuesday.

ADAR refers to the average number of new COVID-19 cases in a period per 100,000 people.

OCTA Research fellow Dr. Guido David said that an ADAR below 6 is deemed low based on their metrics.

On August 22, the NCR had an ADAR of 7.32 per 100,000 individuals.

The seven-day average of new COVID-19 cases in NCR also decreased by 19 percent from 1,062 cases on August 22 to 862 cases on August 29, David said.

The region’s reproduction number, meanwhile, went down from 0.99 on August 19 to 0.95 on August 26. The reproduction rate refers to the number of people infected.

A reproduction number that is less than 1 indicates that the transmission of the virus is slowing down.

The NCR’s one-week positivity rate—or the percentage of people who were found positive for COVID-19 among the total number of individuals tested—also declined from 14.6 percent on August 18 to 12.7 percent on August 25.

The healthcare utilization rate for the coronavirus disease also remained low at 33.3 percent, while its intensive care unit occupancy was also low at 25.8 percent.
