Mason Amos scored two of three triples in the last two minutes to help lift the Philippines to an 84-73 stopping of Chinese Taipei (Tuesday, Manila time) in Group C of the 2022 FIBA Under-18 Asian Championship, at Azadi Basketball Hall in Tehran, Iran.
Amos’ treys with Jared Bahay allowed the Filipinos to grab an 11-point cushion, 79-68, with 2:10 remaining.
The Philippines went on to sweep Group C and earn a spot in the quarterfinals.
James Nacua added 16 points, while Seven Gagate and Bahay sank nine and eight points, respectively.
The three-pointers made by Amos and Bahay found their marks right after the Taiwanese cagers threatened, 66-70.
Amos, a Filipino-Australian standout, knocked in 13 points in the final period.
The top eight teams from three groups have made it to their quarterfinal pairings at the end of pool play.
Chun Sheng Chang made 24 points for the Taiwanese side, which finished the Group Stage with a 2-1 win-loss slate.
Despite the loss, Chinese Taipei stayed in contention for the quarterfinals.
