PBA party-list group Rep. Margarita Nograles on Wednesday defended the election of the son of President Marcos as senior deputy majority leader of the House of Representatives.
Nograles said Ilocos Norte Rep. Sandro Marcos is qualified for the post even he was a first termer because he is “equipped with the knowledge of the House Rules and certain Rules of Procedure, more than most if not all neophytes.”
She said the young Marcos is knowlegeable with House rules because he used to work for Speaker Martin Romualdez when the latter was the majority leader in the previous Congress.
Kabataan party-list group Rep. Manuel earlier said that the young Marcos “only got his position because of his last name and because he is the son on the President.”
“Representative Marcos was elected, overwhelmingly and unanimously, by the majority as their Senior Deputy Majority Leader. It is clear that the majority has spoken and has full faith, trust, and confidence that Representative Marcos will do well in his position because he is qualified for that position with both his educational and work background,” Nograles said in a statement.
“Surely, Representative Manuel as the voice of the youth cannot claim that a neophyte like himself cannot do a good job in a position Representative Marcos is indeed qualified for,” Nograles said.
“As a lawyer, I can personally attest to Representative Marcos’s deep grasp of the House Rules and Procedures (even more than I). I hope Rep. Manuel, as part of the minority bloc, will respect our choice in the majority as we respect their decision-making processes as well,” she said.
