SpaceX to roll out PH services this year

Space Exploration Technologies Corp. of US billionaire Elon Musk said Wednesday it expects to commercially roll out satellite broadband services in the Philippines by the end of the year.

“Hopefully, [we’ll] be providing the service by end of the year,” SpaceX and Starlink representative Rebecca Hubert said in a press briefing.

Hubert said router kit, a one-time equipment purchase, costs $599 (P33,000) while the monthly subscription fee would be $99 (P5,500) with no data caps. “It is a complementary to the current providers … The goal is really to fill the digital gap so that the opportunities that people have can be extended throughout the country,” she said.

Starlink Internet Services Philippines Inc., the Philippine unit of SpaceX, earlier secured the approval of the National Telecommunications Commission as a value-added service provider.
