ONE Championship and Amazon’s Prime Video have signed a deal to broadcast 12 live events per year in U.S. primetime. The first of these events, ONE on Prime Video 1: Moraes vs. Johnson II, airs on August 26 (August 27 PHT).
Although no Filipinos will make an appearance on the first ONE on Prime Video card, we can expect the country’s finest martial artists to showcase their skills to North American audiences soon enough.
Having said that, here are three Filipino athletes who we could see compete at a future ONE on Prime Video event.
#1 Joshua Pacio
Joshua “The Passion” Pacio has been a trailblazer for Filipino athletes in the organization since his first knockout victory of Rabin “The Rock” Catalan at ONE: GLOBAL RIVALS in April 2016.
Pacio is a five-time ONE Strawweight World Champion, with his most recent win coming via first-round technical knockout against #5-ranked contender Yosuke “The Ninja” Saruta.
With his fast and dynamic striking ability, the man with an 11-3 record in The Home of Martial Arts would no doubt wow ONE’s North American fan base.
#2 Jackie Buntan
Jackie Buntan is a Filipina-American who works tirelessly to represent her roots. In fact, she most recently traveled to the Philippines with ONE Championship to work on a unique project.
Buntan is 3-1 in the organization, and her latest bout was an absolute firefight against Smilla “The Hurricane” Fairtex at ONE 156: Eersel vs. Sandokic for the inaugural ONE Women’s Strawweight Muay Thai World Title.
Although she lost the battle, Buntan displayed the heart that Filipino fighters are known to carry into the Circle. That said, the question isn’t if Buntan will appear on a ONE on Prime Video event, but rather when.
#3 Stephen Loman
Fourth-ranked bantamweight Stephen “The Sniper” Loman is a 27-year-old Filipino quickly rising through the organization’s ranks.
He has tasted two back-to-back victories, including a spectacular knockout of Yusup “Maestro” Saadulaev at ONE: WINTER WARRIORS II in December and a hard-fought unanimous decision over ONE veteran Shoko Sato at ONE X in March.
Like his Team Lakay stablemate in Pacio, Loman has a dynamic and fresh style, which means he has the same ability to put on jaw-dropping performances for North American viewers.
In the meantime, download the ONE Super App to catch all the action at ONE 160: Ok vs. Lee II on Friday, August 26, at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
