Central Visayas logs over 8k dengue cases, 52 deaths

The Central Visayas region has logged more than 8,000 cases of dengue since January this year, or about 12 percent of the total cases nationwide.

Of the 8,293 cases in the region, 52 died because of the mosquito-borne disease.

Cebu province recorded the most cases with 2,938.

Bohol had 1,194 cases while Negros Oriental had 760 and Siquijor had 59.

Cebu City logged 1,710 cases, followed by Lapu-Lapu City with 1,140 and Mandaue City with 492.

Nationwide, the Department of Health recorded 64,797 dengue cases from January 1 to June 25, 2022, a 90 percent hike from last year’s total of 34,074 for the same period.

The DOH said 274 people have died due to dengue, accounting for a 0.4 percent case fatality rate.
