President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. likened his first week in office to that of his father, former President Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr.
In a five-minute video posted on his Youtube channel, the President said “it’s like watching my father at work when he was still President.”
“That’s what I felt. It felt like I was watching my father when he used to run meetings and oath-taking ceremonies,” he said in the vlog.
Marcos also recalled highlights of his first week in office, including meetings. Marcos held his first Cabinet meeting last week and said among the topics discussed during the meeting were addressing skyrocketing oil prices, and strengthening food security.
He also earlier called on the private sector to aid Filipino farmers in the improvement of the agricultural sector.
Marcos also mentioned the government’s plans for COVID-19.
“Getting booster shots is important as our COVID-19 cases are rising again and our students are about to return to face-to-face classes,” he said, quoted by an ABS-CBN report. “We also continue to appoint new leaders in government agencies. And of course, we are also doing courtesy calls with visitors and leaders from other countries,” he added.
Earlier, Marcos ordered the abolition of the President Anti-Corruption Commission and the office of the Cabinet Secretary in his first executive order as President.
Marcos also accepted courtesy calls from different ambassadors while also accepting an invitation from Chinese leader Xi Jinping to go to China.
Marcos also contracted COVID-19 for the second time, but his lead physician said his condition has “greatly improved.” With Gabriellea B. Parino
