Fujifilm Philippines celebrates 10th year; Value from Innovation Never Stops

Fujifilm, a multinational imaging and photography corporation with its headquarters in Tokyo, Japan, is an epitome of a company that never stops innovating amid the changing times.

Fujifilm was first established in 1934 as a producer of photographic film, it has since expanded to become a pioneer in a number of industries, continuously developing new products and services not only in the field of photography.

In fact, its imaging products is only but a quarter of a 4-segment business that encompassses massive touchpoints and delves into Healthcare, Materials, Business Innovation and Imaging.

“In 2021, Fujifilm as a whole earned a total equivalent to USD 21 billion, and in terms of contribution, our medical segment remains the highest contributor,” said Fujifilm Philippines President Ryo Nagaoka during an intimate roundtable discussion with members of the press at their Taguig office recently.

Fujifilm Philippines is on the springboard to reach greater heights not only becoming just a household name in digital cameras, but a “total healthcare company” in the years to come according to Ryo-san, as the 43-year-old executive is fondly called.

And what a better time to do so, bouncing back strong during a tumultuous two years under a pandemic and now celebrating their 10th anniversary in the Philippines banking on continued success by providing a wide range of cutting-edge consumer and business solutions and products, and to a point, even cosmetic products.

Fujifilm Philippines was established in 2012 as a sales subsidiary of Fujifilm regional headquarters in the Asia Pacific. The company caters to quality products and services for the Philippine market and electronic, photo imaging, industrial products, graphic and medical systems.

The company opened its first branch in Cebu 2019 to respond to the growing demands and monitor the quality and consistency of its products and services in the Visayas and nearby Mindanao provinces.

“Since then we have offered unique products as people enjoy the use of our Instax camera lineup, but we also realized that our medical (systems segment) has the potential to grow (here in the Philippines) and as a company, we would like to contribute to society, for the Philippines to benefit from and utilize our machines,” said Nagaoka.

While Fujifilm has long been synonymous with superior photographic films, Fujifilm Philippines as a company has evolved into so much more. Fujifilm leveraged on its expertise in pushing healthcare, and business innovation growth.

Fujifilm Philippines steadily penetrated and made significant contributions in enhancing the local healthcare industry.

As a global pioneer in diagnostic imaging and information systems for healthcare facility, Fujifilm’s healthcare segment has helped address the country’s most pressing challenges.

In 2020, at the height of the pandemic, Fujifilm Philippines continued its support towards the local hospitals.

The company installed FDR Go Plus at various hospitals in the country. The FDR Go Plus is a digital mobile x-ray that gives significant contribution to the Radiology Team frontliners in doing the chest x-ray needed for patients having signs and symptoms of COVID-19.

“The pandemic [started] then hospitals [are busy], the number of patients significantly increased. In that case, x-ray rooms are more occupied and then that is [why] we provided our FDR Go Plus technology, like a more mobile x-ray tool that hospitals can use.

Fujifilm expanded their product lineup through the acquisition of Diagnostic Imaging-related Business of Hitachi, Ltd in 2020, covering CT, MRI in addition to X-ray, ultrasound systems, endoscopy, in-vitro diagnostic systems and Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS).

“We has also started offering these products in the local market, giving the much-needed service and medical equipment to the country,” he added.

Moreover, FUJIFILM Philippines recently secured Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approvals for two of its key products that have aided healthcare workers in responding to COVID-19 cases. The FDR nano a mobile digital X-ray system that allows medical professionals to diagnose COVID-19 signs and at the same time, aid in reducing COVID-19 infection risks, and the FUJIFILM COVID-19 Ag Test Kit, a testing kit that provides quick screening for COVID-19, got FDAs nod. Both products are expected to help in the government’s heightened efforts to put an end to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Even at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Fujifilm continued to serve the Philippine market with its products and services as it celebrated ten years of innovation in the country.

“These three years, specifically 2020 and 2021, were challenging for us, I guess for everybody it is the same. It’s tough for us, but what we did was to focus and continue with what we have accomplished,” expressed Nagaoka.
