Rename NAIA to Ferdinand E. Marcos Int’l Airport—solon

A bill has been filed at the House of Representatives proposing to rename the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) to Ferdinand E. Marcos International Airport.

House Bill 610 of Negros Oriental Rep. Arnolfo Teves cited the need to name NAIA after “the person who has contributed to the idea and execution of the said noble project” – referring to the late president Marcos.

“This project was done during the time of the presidency of Ferdinand Marcos Sr.,” he said.

The administration of the late President Cory Aquino renamed the Manila International Airport (MIA) to NAIA through Republic Act 6639 in 1987, after her late husband, Ninoy Aquino, who was assassinated at the airport.

“It is more appropriate that it would bear the name of the person who has contributed and left a legacy that makes the Philippines a center of international and domestic air travel, who has instituted and built or conceptualized the project making it the pride of our country,” Teves said in his bill.
