BPO sector eyeing 2.5m jobs in 6 years

The IT and Business Process Association of the Philippines expects the industry to have a labor pool of 2.5 million employees in the next six years, a top executive said Monday.

IBPAP president Jack Madrid said the potential of the industry to double its work force is strong if the industry receives the right set of incentives. “The message that I like to always deliver is how indispensable the ITBPM [IT-business process management] industry as an economic pillar is to our economy,” he said.

Madrid said the industry contributed at least 7 percent to the Philippine economy during the pandemic, when other industries failed to grow and contribute to economic stability.

He said the future of work holds the key to the sustained growth of the industry. A survey shows that about 80 percent of respondents prefer to keep the work-from-home and hybrid work set-up.

“The future of work is already happening, and it’s going to be hybrid. Otherwise we will not grow. I think it’s all about flexibility,” he said.
