Darryl Yap’s most intriguing film piques everyone’s curiosity

Controversial filmmaker Darryl Yap made it clear that his latest project Maid in Malacañang was not produced to change history. Its main goal was to “tell another story” shared through the eyes of a “reliable source.”

Yap, who’s behind some interesting and blockbuster films Jowable, Paglaki Ko, Gusto Ko Maging Pornstar, Revirginized, Gluta, and Ang Babaeng Walang Pakiramdam, thanked Senator Imee Marcos for allowing him to do film, which he said, intended for Filipino audiences who wanted to see a broader version of our history.

“Sa tingin ko, ito ay pag-uusapan at tatangkilikin ng mga Pilipinong nagnanais ng mas malawak at mas malinaw na bahagi ng ating kasaysayan,” the young director told the press during the film’s virtual junket.

Senator Marcos, who was also present during the virtual presser explained that the film does not intend to revise history as opposed to what most critics say.

“We should have an entertaining fun-filled and controversy-laden movie and I’m not looking for controversy but unfortunately there will be some truths told and some lies revamp finally. Hindi natin binabago ang katotohanan, dinadagdagan lang ng kaalaman namin,” the senator said.

As the former first family returns to the Malacañang Palace for another seat of presidency, Yap said that the film trains on the Marcoses’ side of the story about one of our nation’s most unforgettable part of history.

Produced by VIVA Films, Maid in Malacañang is a dramedy that gives us a glimpse of the last 72 hours of the Marcoses inside the Palace before fleeing to Hawaii during the 1986 People Power Revolution.

The film shows the lighter and more carefree side of the First Family, that until now has never been shared with anyone. It will also introduce characters and storylines that make the First Family more relatable and normal like other Filipino households with close family ties. It is the quintessential Filipino family sticking together braving all odds.

Maid in Malacañang has been trending even before being officially greenlit for production, receiving floodgates of curiosity and responses on social media after the young director shared the idea during the heat of the 2022 National Election.

The film stars two of the country’s most awarded and talented actors, Cesar Montano and Ruffa Gutierrez, who portray the roles of former President Ferdinand Marcos, Sr. and former First Lady Imelda Marcos, respectively.
