Toyota Motor Philippines is trying to ramp up production following a global shortage of automotive parts that affected the output of major vehicle production hubs.
TMP first vice president for marketing Sherwin Chua Lim said the supply restriction on parts was not as bad as the impact on some selected completely built-up units.
“Nevertheless, all production plants are closely working with suppliers to minimize effects,” Lim said, adding that the supply parts shortage did not affect production of the Vios.
Company data showed, however, that the average monthly sales of the Vios dropped to 2,550 units in the first five months from 2,900 units monthly average in 2021. Cumulative sales of the Vios from July 2018 to May 2022 reached 119,336 units.
Under the government’s Comprehensive Automotive Resurgence Strategy program, TMP is bound by contract to produce 200,000 units of the Vios. The program was extended by two years following the global pandemic.
